Singapore Airlines was recently named the world’s best airline, but with carriers like Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific hot on its heels, resting on its laurels is not an option.
To that end, the Singaporean flag carrier has just announced a S$2 billion (€1.4 billion) investment in its long-haul first, business, premium economy and economy class cabins.
Starting from the second half of 2027, these will be introduced on its retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, as well as its new Boeing 777-9s.
More than 5,000 frequent travellers, customers, staff and industry experts were involved in focus groups, surveys and concept testing to make sure the new designs work with the actual travel experience.
“While each cabin has been designed individually, they are united by the same ambition to make the experience more comfortable, flexible, and rewarding for our customers,” Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer at Singapore Airlines, said.
“Singapore Airlines’ next-generation long-haul cabin products will ensure that our customers travel more comfortably than before, and have greater control over their in-flight experience, whether they are working, dining, relaxing, or resting.”
What to expect on board
Up in first class, customers travelling together in the centre seats can transform their seats into a two-seater sofa during the day, or into the largest double bed in commercial aviation, measuring 203 centimetres in length and 152 centimetres in width, come night time.
You’ll have dedicated storage spaces including a personal wardrobe, a vanity drawer, and a cabin baggage compartment underneath the ottoman, plus a table large enough to dine as a pair, or for use as a workspace.
Business class customers will have sliding doors to ensure privacy, with a seat pitch of 127 centimetres. Seats are convertible into a full-flat bed, which measures 200 centimetres in length and up to 61 centimetres in width.
Singapore Airlines has unveiled new amenity kits, with SISLEY products in first class, BYREDO in business class, and INK & WATER for premium economy. Business class customers will also get pyjamas for the first time (first class customers already receive them).
In premium economy, you can expect a 101cm seat pitch, a four-way adjustable headrest and a leg rest with adjustable foot rest.
Lastly, those flying in economy class have a seat pitch of between 78 centimetres and 81 centimetres and a four-way adjustable headrest.
Across the cabins, there are USB-C charging ports, while some planes and classes will also have USB-A ports, universal AC power or wireless charging.
Passengers will also be able to pair their personal headphones with the KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system via Bluetooth.
On the food front, the airline is offering more than 100 refreshed appetisers, main courses and desserts.
