There was no surprise in the women's singles final at Roland-Garros in Paris on Saturday. Mirra Andreeva, the 19-year-old Russian competing under a neutral flag, duly swept aside Poland's Maja Chwalinska in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

After a flawless run, dropping just one set in the second round, Mirra Andreeva managed to avoid the Maja Chwalinska trap. The Pole, who had come through qualifying, was the surprise package in the final after a sensational campaign.

Broken in the opening game of the first set, the Pole initially dug in, breaking straight back to move 3-2 ahead. Hampered by the wind, Maja Chwalinska then looked increasingly fragile against the relentless Mirra Andreeva.

The world No. 8 eventually wrapped up a 6-3, 6-2 victory, clinching her first Roland-Garros title and maiden Grand Slam crown.
