The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) has detained six people for the crime of speculative ticket reselling for Bad Bunny’s concerts, which take place this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon.
In a statement shared on social media, ASAE explained that this happened as part of a “criminal prevention operation” carried out “in recent days”, codenamed “Puerto Rico”, which also led to the seizure of 14 tickets.
The investigation, which focused on sales adverts on social media, uncovered “the promotion of tickets being sold for prices far above face value”. According to the authority’s calculations, the scheme would have generated an extraordinary (and illegal) profit for the sellers of between €120 and €410 per ticket.
The six people who are the subject of criminal proceedings were then “placed under an identity and residence order and notified to appear in court”.
However, ASAE clarified that after appearing “before the judicial authorities”, the defendants “were granted the provisional suspension of the proceedings, for periods of between five and six months”. This is on condition that they pay “amounts ranging from €400 to €1,000” or agree to “carry out up to 110 hours of community service”.
In the same press release, the authority also issued a warning to consumers “not to buy tickets above the official price”, since “speculative selling constitutes a criminal offence punishable by six months to three years in prison and a fine of no less than 100 days”.
The first of Bad Bunny’s two Lisbon concerts is scheduled to start at 8 pm this Tuesday, with the band Chuwi opening the show. The Puerto Rican artist’s performance is due to begin at 9 pm.
