Around 7,000 players took part in a giant table tennis festival in Moscow, with organisers aiming to set a new world record for the largest mass participation tournament ever held.
Thousands of table tennis enthusiasts gathered at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday for what organisers hope will become a new world record.
Around 7,000 participants of all ages and skill levels competed simultaneously in a mass tournament featuring 200 tables spread across the arena.
Video showed players filling the venue as matches took place side by side under the supervision of dozens of referees.
Competitors took part in categories for children, amateurs and veterans. Organisers said the event is expected to surpass the previous record, also set in Moscow, when more than 5,000 people participated.
Many attendees described the festival as a celebration of sport and community, bringing together players from different generations.
