Vogue publishes exclusive photos from Ronaldo and Georgina's wedding

At last, the photos and details everyone had been waiting for: Vogue published on Saturday, on its website, the first known images of the most talked-about wedding of recent times. The ceremony took place at the couple's home in Cascais.

Until this Sunday, it was the most talked-about and at the same time most secret wedding anyone could remember. Everyone knew that Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez were going to get married, but no one knew when or where. Anyone who bet on Funchal lost. Anyone who imagined a gigantic ceremony with hundreds of guests did too.

The wedding is still one of the most talked-about, but it is no longer a secret. When the couple posted, a week ago, the photo of their wedding rings on Instagram, everyone was caught by surprise. It then emerged that the wedding was an intimate ceremony, held at the couple’s home in Cascais, where they live with their children, on Tuesday 11 August at 13:30, exactly ten years after their first meeting at the Gucci store in Madrid, where Georgina worked as a sales assistant.

The gathering was kept to an absolute minimum: as well as their five children (Cristiano Ronaldo Júnior, the twins Eva and Mateo – those two are Ronaldo’s biological children only – and the couple’s two daughters, Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda), there were just four witnesses: Miguel Paixão, a friend of the footballer since his youth days at Sporting, Ivana Rodríguez, Georgina’s sister, and their friends Jose Rodríguez Sangil and Monica Gonzalez Martinez, a Spanish jeweller and his wife. It also emerged that they opted for a separation-of-assets marriage regime.

We knew the details, but we were still missing what everyone wanted: the photos. What the bride and groom and their guests were wearing, how the house was decorated. The suspense is over, because Vogue has just published everything (source in Portuguese). That explains the extreme secrecy and the fact that not a single photo or any information about the outfits had leaked until now: the couple gave the exclusive to the US magazine, which published the images on its website this Sunday and is expected to run them in its next print edition, out in September. The couple also appear on the cover of Vogue’s digital summer edition:

The ceremony may have been a civil one, but Cristiano, Georgina and the children attended a mass to bless their union, as shown in Vogue’s images. The magazine also presents a photo shoot with Georgina surrounded by her children.

In other photos, the couple are working out at home:

The images also show Georgina wearing top-of-the-range Chopard jewellery, by the pool and while exercising, as well as during the ceremony itself. Their clothes could not have been more low-key: a light-coloured suit and white shirt with no buttons or tie for him, a white skirt-and-jacket ensemble and equally white shirt for her. Vogue’s photos, all shot by Juergen Teller, also reveal part of Georgina’s shoe collection and Ronaldo’s rosary. The video below shows the highlights of the photo shoot:

In the words that accompany the photographs, Georgina tells the magazine how she experienced the day and how different it was from what she had dreamed of as a child:

"When I was little, I dreamed of the biggest castle, the grandest carriage, the longest dress, a crown covered in diamonds. Now I say: no. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home. Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: we have all of that within reach every day. But something intimate, that is much rarer for us", Georgina confided to Vogue. The journalist Gaby Wood, who wrote the report, adds: "In the economy of fame, privacy is priceless".
