'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' becomes eighth film in history to cross $2 billion at box office

The Marvel blockbuster 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has become one of only eight films in history to reach the $2billion box office milestone, and looks set to finish 2026 as one of the top grossing films of all time.

It's a new box office milestone for Spider-Man, after the web-slinger's latest adventure became the second fastest film in history to cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed $2 billion in global ticket sales after just three weeks of release. Starring Tom Holland in his fourth solo Spider-Man movie, the film has so far grossed $785 million in the US and $1.23 billion overseas, totalling $2.022 billion worldwide.

In keeping with its previous record, the newest adventure becomes the second fastest film to cross the $2bn mark, following Avengers: Endgame, which got there after a record-setting 11 days.

It joins only seven other films to do so:

  1. Avatar (2009) - $2.92 billion
  2. Avengers: Endgame (2019) - $2.79 billion
  3. Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) - $2.33 billion
  4. Ne Zha 2 (2025) - $2.27 billion
  5. Titanic (1997) - $2.26 billion
  6. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) - $2.07 billion
  7. Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - $2.04 billion

It's worth pointing out that the previous Spider-Man installment, 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, nearly achieved the milestone with $1.9 billion.

Already the eighth-biggest worldwide release in history, there's every chance that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will end the year as one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

The question remains: Will it become the first to ever hit $3 billion worldwide?

In Euronews Culture's review for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we wrote: " Director Destin Daniel Cretton, who has taken the reins from regular director Jon Watts, does a great job in committing to the character's comic roots reset, making the stakes believable, and ensuring the emotion matches the spectacle."

We added: "Despite its shortcomings and not being the slam-dunk the MCU so badly needs, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is bolstered by consistently strong action sequences and a terrific performance from Holland, who can now safely be crowned the greatest on-screen Spider-Man. All four of his solo outings prove how badly Marvel needs him on its roster of heroes."
