Muslim, Christian and Jewish communities have lived alongside one another in Azerbaijan for generations, according to religious leaders in the country.
In Baku, a Catholic church serves expats and locals, and its leaders say they meet regularly with the Sheikh-ul-Islam and heads of the Jewish and Orthodox communities. Historic churches in Sheki and Gakh reflect the country's Christian heritage.
Authorities have invested in restoring places of worship and signed cooperation agreements with the Vatican, including a September 2025 memorandum on digitising and restoring historical manuscripts.
