Secret Service officers and police sealed off streets around the White House after a person opened fire at a security checkpoint before being shot dead by officers, according to US authorities.
Police and Secret Service officers surrounded the area near the White House on Saturday after a deadly shooting at a security checkpoint.
Video showed yellow police tape, evidence markers and emergency medical equipment scattered across the scene as authorities blocked nearby streets.
According to US officials, a person approached the checkpoint carrying a bag, pulled out a weapon and opened fire on officers before being shot by Secret Service personnel. The suspect later died in hospital.
A bystander was also injured during the incident, while President Donald Trump, who was inside the White House at the time, was not affected by the incident.
