A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Japan early on Sunday, causing strong shaking and injuring dozens of people, according to authorities.
The quake hit around the southern part of the Ibaraki Prefecture, close to Tokyo, at a depth of roughly 68 km, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said, adding that there was "no concern about tsunamis."
Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency said at least 37 people were injured following the tremor, including one person who was seriously hurt. One building was also damaged in Saitama Prefecture, it added.
In Tokyo, some regional train services were also reportedly disrupted.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the quake was felt across the capital as well as in the prefectures of, Ibaraki, Saitama, and Chiba.
She said authorities were "taking appropriate measures" and that she had told officials to assess the extent of the damage and to "provide the public with timely and accurate information."
"I would ask residents in the areas where the shaking was particularly strong to remain vigilant for the possibility of another earthquake of a similar magnitude," Takaichi added.
