Pompano Beach hosts the first US jellyfish museum, where visitors watch 20 species drift in tanks and learn about their ecosystems and research.

In Pompano Beach, Florida, visitors wander past glowing tanks filled with drifting jellyfish at the city’s new Jellyfish Museum.

The video shows spectators watching moon jellies, sea nettles and other species pulse through the water.

General manager Iryna Pelypkanych says the site aims to teach people about the roughly 4,000 known jellyfish species and their role in marine ecosystems. She adds that research is exploring how some jellyfish could help treat diseases such as cancer.

The museum, housed in a former bank branch, holds about 20 species across 21 tanks. Staff hope guests leave calmer, more aware and curious to learn more.
