Police fired teargas at protesters in Nairobi as demonstrations broke out during a nationwide transport strike over soaring fuel prices and rising living costs.
Protests erupted across Nairobi as demonstrators blocked roads, burned tires and clashed with police during a nationwide transport strike over rising fuel prices.
Footage showed officers firing teargas while protesters ran through smoke-filled streets and set bonfires on major roads.
Authorities also deployed mounted police as some demonstrators were arrested. The unrest followed a sharp increase in fuel prices, with many Kenyans saying the cost of living has become unbearable and public transport disruptions leaving commuters stranded across the capital.
