Video. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and former Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger welcomed the World Cup trophy to New York as part of FIFA's official Trophy Tour ahead of the 2026 tournament.

The event brought together city officials, football representatives and fans as the iconic trophy made a stop in one of the host cities for the upcoming tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mayor Mamdani highlighted New York City's role in the global football spectacle and expressed excitement about the tournament's arrival.

"On June 13th and over the month that follows, greatness will exist on the pitch, and it will feel right at home here in New York City," he said.

Schweinsteiger, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, joined the mayor in presenting the trophy and celebrating the growing anticipation surrounding the competition. The former midfielder, one of Germany's most decorated players, has been participating in promotional activities linked to the Trophy Tour.
