Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s musical legacy continues to bring different traditions together, inspiring an international festival spanning concerts, culture and musical exchange.
A century ago, Uzeyir Hajibeyli was exploring ways to connect musical traditions that had often been seen as separate. His approach still runs through the festival created in his honour, now marking its 18th edition. This year’s programme brought together concerts, exhibitions and performances inspired by the musical ties of the Turkic world. Performers also reflected on Hajibeyli’s fusion of traditional Azerbaijani music with Western classical forms. The festival included a forum marking the centenary of the Turkological Congress of 1926 and has continued to expand with events and performances abroad.
