All your docs in one app? New EU digital wallet could solve admin issues
Would you trust a single, EU-backed digital service to hold all your legal, professional, and medical information? The EUDI Wallet wants to simplify administrative tasks by storing citizens’ documents in a single system that works across all member states.

Today, moving, working or studying in another EU country can involve separate national systems and a lot of paperwork. So, the EU has come up with the EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet, a government-backed mobile app that will let people and businesses prove their identity online and in person across the entire European Union. The goal is to make cross-border services easier to use.
It's designed to store all official digital credentials in one place. These can include a national ID, driver's licence, medical prescriptions and academic diplomas. It can also support electronic signatures, payment methods and business certificates. Tasks such as opening a bank account, renting a car or enrolling at a university abroad should become simpler to complete digitally.
Each member state will provide its own wallet, built to common European standards so the different national versions can work across borders. Every EU country is required to make at least one certified wallet available by December 2026.
The project is raising concerns, with privacy and civil rights groups questioning whether putting all identity information into one digital system increases the risk of cyberattacks, surveillance or the wider use of biometric data.
Tere are practical concerns too. Some countries already have advanced national digital identity systems, and adapting them to a new EU-wide framework may be costly and complex.
