Singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini died on Thursday morning in the hamlet of Pavana, in the municipality of Sambuca Pistoiese, at the age of 86.
His family announced his death in an official statement, confirming that the artist passed away surrounded by the love of his wife Raffaella, his daughter Teresa and his relatives.
In accordance with his wishes, the funeral will be held in the coming days in the strictest privacy. The family has asked for discretion and quiet reflection:
"In asking that this moment of grief may be experienced in the closest intimacy, we would like to thank in advance all those who will join in mourning him with affection, discretion and respect," the statement reads.
In September a ceremony will be organised to commemorate one of the most influential singer-songwriters in Italian music.

Born in Modena on 14 June 1940, Guccini was deeply attached to his roots and in particular to the land of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
He spent his childhood years in Pavana during the Second World War, a place that would go on to shape all his poetry and his literary output.
His official recording debut came in 1967 with the album Folk beat n. 1, the start of a prolific and influential career spanning several decades.
Among his best-known and most emblematic songs are tracks such as "Auschwitz", "Dio è morto", "Canzone per un'amica", "Radici", "Piccola città" and "Amerigo", several of which were also turned into hits by historic bands such as Nomadi and Équipe 84.
A versatile artist and a leading figure in Italy's singer-songwriter tradition, Guccini was also the author of essays and novels, including "Cròniche epafàniche" and "Vacca d'un cane", a comics writer, actor and scholar of dialectology.
For years Guccini taught Italian at the Bologna campus of Dickinson College.
Over the course of his career he received numerous awards, including multiple Targa Tenco and Premio Tenco prizes, as well as an honorary degree in Education Sciences conferred on him by the University of Bologna in 2002.
