Welsh actor Owain Rhys Davies, best known for his roles in cult shows Twin Peaks: The Return (2017) and The OA (2019), has died aged 44.
His family announced the news in a statement: “It is with profound sadness that my father and I share the news that my brother, Owain, has passed away. This news will come as a great shock to many. The reach of Owain’s love, friendship, and generosity was vast.”
Rhys Davies’ brother, Rhodri, said there were “questions” surrounding his brother’s death, but said the family’s “understanding is that Owain passed suddenly, naturally, and peacefully”.
Born on 20 February 1982 in Cardiff, Wales, Rhys Davies worked at The Royal National Theatre and had credits in West End shows including Mamma Mia! and The Wizard of Oz. He also worked in productions of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and Under Milk Wood.
He was best known for his roles in cult Netflix sci-fi drama The OA, starring Brit Marling and Jason Isaacs, as well as in Twin Peaks: The Return, David Lynch and Mark Frost's revival of the hit 1990s series. He played FBI Agent Wilson, who routinely gets yelled at by his superior.
His other credits includes the 2016 Disney film Alice Through the Looking Glass, the show My Dead Ex, and the acclaimed 2019 horror satire A Serial Killer's Guide to Life.
His completed the filming of his final two projects, Jeff the Killer and La Fantasia, which are both in post-production.
